In a video uploaded on Pear Video, images from the bathroom depicts a disaster zone with the sink ripped from the wall.
The family’s neighbour said in an interview that she was sitting at the stairway during the time of the incident when she heard a loud thud coming from the house.
According to her, there were hot air coming through the toilet and kitchen window. She immediately called for an ambulance.
It was said that the toddler’s mum tried to endure the pain and hugged her child tightly while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, refusing to let go of him.
Family members of the injured got in touch with the company who manufactured the water heater, hoping to investigate the cause of the water heater explosion.
To compensate the family, the company sent over 50,000 yuan (S$9,800) on the afternoon of 16 June 2020.
However, given the large sum of compensation involved, the family was urged to pursue the matter in court instead.
